John Lennon's Celebration

The global celebrations of John Lennon's birthday included a performance by his widow Yoko Ono and the couple's son Sean in Reykjavik, Iceland. Lennon was shot dead outside his New York apartment block in December 1980.

John Lennon's CelebrationIn John Lennon's hometown of Liverpool, a monument was unveiled yesterday in his honour, signifying his work and accomplishments as a peace activist. This prompted the 2000 plus crowd in Chavasse Park to join hands and sing 'Give Peace a Chance'.
The unveiling of a US$350,000 (S$527,000), 5.4m-tall sculpture, designed to promote peace, was among events held worldwide to celebrate the singer-songwriter and peace activist.

The ceremony was also attended by John Lennon's son, Julian, and first wife, Cynthia.
Technology giant Google has decided to honour Lennon by tweaking their logo to an animated doodle based on Lennon's solo song, 'Imagine'.
Meanwhile, Yoko Ono will perform a concert in Reykjavik, Iceland in Lennon's honour.
